If your wondering what to do with your real Christmas tree after the celebrations are over, why not take advantage of the Friends of Chadlington school Christmas tree recycling service?
For just £2 a tree you can have your tree picked up from your house and taken for recycling. The trees are taken to be chipped and used for compost and mulch - much better for the environment than letting your tree end up in landfill and wasting the opportunity to create biomass that could provide nutrients for depleted soil. Money raised will go to the Friends of Chadlington School.
If you’re interested in getting your tree collected then call Jon and Jude Alsop on 01608 676149. Collection will be on Saturday 10th January and the service is available to residents of Chadlington, Dean and Spelsbury.
Why not make one of your 2009 resolutions to reuse and recycle more? Here are a few ideas:
- The woodland trust are running a recycling scheme for christmas cards - have a look at the Woodland Trust card recycling site
- Don’t send your unwanted but serviceable items to the dump - join Freecycle in your local area. Freecycle is a non-profit making, world-wide movement of people trying to cut down on landfill by giving and receiving goods for free in their local area. Have a look at the website
- Set yourself a challenge - how empty can you keep your bin? Most things can now be recycled. Find details at Recycle now.
- Try to buy goods with the minimum of packaging (preferably from your local shops). How about making a resolution not to use another carrier bag this year? Reuse the ones you’ve got and buy long lasting re-useable (non-plastic) bags when you need more. Chadlington Quality Foods are selling a nice shopping bag at the moment!
- Compost - making compost is a fun way to reduce your bin contents and hopefully you will end up with a wonderful rich soil that you can use on your garden or give to your neighbours (rather than a black, smelly slime that is). Again, the WRAP Recycle now website has some tips for getting you started here.
